Winter Week — Self-Catering Cottage in Boden
The ideal Lapland trip for those of you who prefer to be spontaneous, adapting to wind, weather, your own mood of the day whilst being in control of your own budget. — Your accommodation will be a simple yet warm and functional self-catering apartment in the Villa Björknäs, where you can take care of yourselves. The Villa is close to the cottages at the local Camping-complex, which is situated beside the town’s central lake and just a short walk from the local shops, amenities and the town centre. The local snowmobile and ski tracks are close by. Should you like to come 4 or more people in a group, you share one of the cottages, which can take up to six people.
Day 1 – Sunday
Flights to the heart of Swedish Lapland are now available from several UK Airports, please ask us for guidance before booking your flights, we will be happy to advise. Guests will be greeted at Luleå airport by your hosts, on collection of thier luggage they will be provided with the warm clothing before beginning the 35 minute road transfer along the quiet roads through the snow clad forests until we reach the town of Boden. Throughout the transfer our driver-guide will answer your questions and explain how the native people live their lives in the north. During the journey your host will discuss your food preferences and arrange the collection of a hot takeaway meal for your enjoyment on arrival at your cottage. Our Cottage Guests will have a small starter pack of provisions, provided to enable you to spend a comfortable evening and enjoy a breakfast in the morning.
Day 2 – Monday
After breakfast our guide will visit you at your cottage and will be happy to answer any questions, explain the local area and amenities and also provide you with a program of the various activities that are available locally, these can be arranged and pre booked with your hosts. For those who have signed on for skiing, our guide will check your equipment to ensure that it is fit for purpose If some instruction is required out guide will happy to assist. By now you’re set for the rest of the day and also the days to come whilst you enjoy your break in our wintry and beautiful land.
Day 3 – Tuesday → Day 7 Saturday
All this time is your own to do as you please! However should you wish you can pre-arrange additional activities with your guide, he will be happy to arrange these for you. Just ask! Or if you simply want to do your own thing just pick up your skis and enjoy yourselves, maybe have a go at the illuminated track outside the fence, which will take you to the Pagla Ski Stadium, which is the cross-country ski centre, where you will find more than a handful of meticulously prepared tracks converge. Here you will find fire places, toilets, lockers, showers and a sauna in case of need.
If skis are not your thing you can find much to do in and around Boden, the choice is yours; listed below are a few which may be of interest to you. Go jogging, walking, make angels in the snow, take a walk to the excellent Defence Museum or visit an Art Exhibition at the old Oat Magazine, inspect our Viking-Style (heritage listed) train-station and count the wagons on the huge Iron Ore shuttle, take a swim under the naked stars on the penthouse pool at the fantastic Nordpoolen Water-Park (one of Sweden’s best), take a look at the Historic Locomotive which is near-by, visit our main Church from 1831 with the adjacent Church-Town (the foundation of our town), pay a visit to our own Nobel-laureate’s, Eyvind Johnson (1974), birth home-stead. Inspect the canons at Salute Station. Here we celebrate our Royal Birthdays and other national events. If you like Opera there are live-broadcasts from the Metropolitan (N.Y. USA) and other major opera houses around the world. These are shown at the Saga Cinema a couple of times each month. Please ask your host for further details and information.
Should you wish to hire any additional equipment during your stay such as a kick-sled, Snowshoes, skates, x-country skis or ice-fishing gear or other specific items then please ask your hosts, they will be happy to arrange this for you at reasonable prices.
Day 8 – Sunday
Your guide will arrive before transferring you by road to Lulea airport for you’re return flights.
